The game of Bakugan uses special marbles that house the Bakugan creatures inside. When you are looking to buy such a gift for your child there are several different items that you can purchase for them. Along with the Bakugan starter packs that come in a variety of different colors and which contain three Bakugan marbles and three character cards, there are also the battle packs, booster packs, bakugan arena and a launcher to consider as well. Although the launcher and arena are great items to have they aren’t essential for your child to be able to play this game.

Before you Battle: Two to four players can play at one time. Before you begin each player must select a deck of a minimum of three Bakugan Brawlers and three cards to use in the game. You are not limited to using three but each player must have the same number of cards and brawlers.

Bakugan Balls

When you look at all the Bakugan toys that are available, it is a little overwhelming especially if you are unfamiliar with the game. Do you need to buy the battle arena? Is a starter pack by itself ok?

If you do not have a battle arena its ok. All you really need to play are the Bakugan balls (like marbles) and a few of the magentic cards. The game begins with each player placing a card face down on the battle field on the side closest to their opponent. If there are only two players in the game then each player needs to put a second card down to form the battle field. So basically if there are two players before you can roll a Bakugan Brawler onto the field you will have four cards on the field forming a rectangle.

Bakugan Cards

Each card should be facing down so that no player knows the ability of the card they are using. There are four types of cards; Normal Cards, Character Cards, Command Cards and Ability Cards. All the cards are metal accept for the ability cards. The metal cards are the ones that are placed in the battle field and are the only cards that can make a Bakugan Battle Brawler pop open for battle.

The cards represent various characters that are seen on the show. To play the game one lays the cards out on a flat surface (a table will suffice) and then they roll the marbles containing the characters across them. If the card lands on an appropriate card it will stop and the marble unlocks and transforms into a character in a unique fighting position!

However, if two Bakugans which are used by opposing players happen to land on the same card then a simulated battle takes place between them. Each player has to add up the number of points on the card to the number of points that their marble has and the one with the highest score is deemed the winner.
